Engagement Story

We took a weekend trip to the place where our relationship started; Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. We love all things outdoors and this particular weekend, Aaron was relentless about hiking the Cascade Falls (a hike we've done many times together) before getting into town. So we hiked and while Aaron's sister was taking a picture of us in front of the falls, Aaron got down on one knee, popped the question then sealed the deal with a Ring Pop (at first).  Of course I said yes and we spent the weekend celebrating blissfully.

Why did you choose the Outer Banks & The Black Stallion?

It was important to us that we spent quality time with our loved ones that would traveling from all corners of the country to celebrate with us. Alas, we found the Black Stallion and it checked everything off our list. Most importantly, the house gave us the flexibility that most venues don't offer. In the end, we spent an entire week with our loved ones under one roof, laughing & enjoying all the pre-wedding festivities and capped off our week with the most unforgettable ceremony & celebration.  We planned for a wedding, but what we ended up with was so much more.

Description of wedding

To us our wedding was a time to celebrate, dance & enjoy the beautiful atmosphere with our loved ones. That was our focus. We kept things minimal and elegant. Our wedding guests were scattered throughout the backyard and up on the porch which would made our backyard ceremony feel inviting and warm. We enjoyed an ambiance of lights, tiki torches, candles & greenery and indulged in Cosmo's Pizza & Duck Donuts.

We had many DIY details. Aaron and my father-in-law bought the materials for overhead pool lights and set everything up themselves! It was their special project and it turned out great! Additionally, my dad made it his project to decorate our alter. It made it that much more special and meaningful.  The clear top tent kept everything open and bright. One of my favorite moments of the night came when Aaron and I took a moment to ourselves to watch our friends & family dancing the night away from the balcony.

Any advice to couples currently planning a wedding?
