Our courtship was full of travel and daily phone conversations. The geographic distance and time zones between us were not going to keep us from flourishing. As we put God first in our devotions, we watched our relationship blossom. For the Christmas holiday, we decided to do a service project and feed the homeless as our way of paying it forward. On that very trip to Hawaii, Russell surprised me and got down on one knee to propose.
Why did you choose the Outer Banks & The Black Stallion?
We wanted an intimate destination location, on a property large enough to accommodate our immediate families and closest friends. Russell showed me the website of rental homes to choose from and we both fell in love with this house because of the big kitchen and beautiful spiral staircase.
Description of wedding
Russell and I wanted to blend both cultures so that our families could learn a little more about each other. In addition to my custom Chinese dress, I incorporated the tea pouring/serving to our moms as a sign of respect. Russell was confident that we call out our loved ones via African American libation ceremony. We also acknowledged and included our children during the unity candle lighting. The most significant part of our ceremony was putting God first so we had prayer and scripture reading by our relatives.
Any advice to couples currently planning a wedding?
Have healthy communication with active listening so there’s clear understanding. Always remember why you fell in love in the first place.
